CFAL Handbook¶
This is the handbook for the Computational Fluid and Aerodynamics Laboratory (CFAL) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. It collects the guides, references and lab practices we wish we'd had when we started, from joining the lab to running simulations on Vega.
Note
This site is new. The Cluster and Software sections are written; most other pages are marked "Draft in progress". If you can help fill one in, see Contributing.
Sections¶
| Section | What you'll find |
|---|---|
| Getting Started | Joining the lab, accounts and access, working with your advisor |
| Undergraduate | Getting involved in research, technical skills, capstone, the path to graduate school |
| Graduate | Program overview, milestones (qualifier, proposal, defense), publishing, mentorship |
| Papers & Writing | Academic writing, LaTeX, figures, responding to reviewers |
| Lab | Workstations, software licenses, data storage, code standards, policies |
| Cluster | Vega: access, job submission, resource planning, scripts |
| Software | CFD solvers (STAR-CCM+, ANSYS, etc.) and other tools, including how to run them on Vega |

Acknowledgements¶
The style and structure of this site are adapted from the IMPETUS INDOMITUS team docs, the handbook of the IMPETUS INDOMITUS research team at Universidad del Valle. Thank you for sharing such a clear model for a lab handbook.
AI was used to help write this documentation, but all content was reviewed by Jackson Asiatico. If you see any errors or areas for improvement, please let me know. I'm just a PhD student trying to document the things I wish I had known when I started.
